The Real Truth Behind Marijuana Prohibition

Have you ever written something that made you doubt your own sanity? Or, worse yet, had the potential to expose you to ridicule or danger? But what if that danger was just in your own mind? Again, I’m questioning my sanity…but the answer seems so sane. For almost my entire life I’ve been reading, and watching, the world. Stricken with severe arthritis in both legs during a large part of my childhood, I read books and encyclopaedias with a voracious mental appetite while the other children played outside during recess. In my teen years I developed a passion to discover the true motivations behind society, history, and government.

And then the Internet hit the public in a big way at the start of 1992 with the creation of the World Wide Web. Information has never been so accessible to so many people around the globe, and I’ve made good use of the Internet to further my studies and promote medical marijuana activism.

So what I’m about to say may seem incredibly naive to some, or completely ludicrous to others. But my conclusion seems to be the only logical one, from what I’ve learned through decades of research.

I guess what bothers me the most is that I may be labelled a “conspiracy theorist”, when really I’m just like you: a person who wants to be happy, live a good life, and hurt no one. And be allowed to smoke cannabis for pain relief when my health problem gives me grief.

Marijuana activism led me to discover a great deal about the real problems in society today. Overwhelming evidence proves that cannabis is an extremely beneficial plant, useful for medicine, food, fuel, clothing, etc, etc. And yet, it is still illegal in so many places in the world. Raw data shows that tobacco and alcohol both claim millions of lives, yet not one death caused by the ingestion of cannabis has ever been proven.

Why is this? It is logical that marijuana is much safer than liquor and tobacco, yet the former is demonized while the latter are produced and taxed heavily almost everywhere.

And that’s the key to the truth. Profit. Well, d’uh, you’re probably saying. It’s obvious that the American and Canadian governments are making huge profits from the taxation and regulation of booze and cigs. So why don’t they legalize marijuana and make money from taxing the cannabis businesses that are sure to follow the end of prohibition?

Well, the answer is mainly two-fold. First, cannabis is not physically addictive like the chemically-treated stuff called “tobacco” in cigarettes. Hundreds of different substances are added to tobacco not to improve its overall flavour, but to hook the smoker in hundreds of different little ways. That’s why quitting tobacco is so incredibly difficult: the ex-smoker’s body is literally “jonesing” for its big and tiny fixes of a myriad of artificial chemicals.

But while cannabis may have a psychological addiction for some people, it’s neither artificially-caused nor long-term. Cannabis does have a myriad of different chemicals in it as well, but all of them are natural, and not specifically geared to physiologically hook a person. So, what could be more a threat to the profit-geared tobacco companies than an alternative, natural, non-addictive, grow-it-yourself smoke-able product like marijuana?

Truth be told, it’s the tobacco companies that fund many of the anti-marijuana campaigns targeting youth these days. They want future smokers hooked on their product, so the money keeps flowing to the tobacco executives.

The second big reason governments continue to fight marijuana legalization is the profits made by pharmaceutical companies from prescription medicines. Since cannabis is a self-medicating natural substance one can grow in a closet or basement, pharmaceutical companies strive to keep it illegal so that they can continue making billions from pushing pills…many of which are much more dangerous or addictive than cannabis could ever be.

The next time you are visiting your family doctor or specialist, ask if he/she gets free samples of medicine from pharmaceutical sales representatives. More likely than not, the doctor will nod “yes” and show you the cabinet or closet where he or she keeps all the “trial samples”. The drug companies want your doctors to hand out their product like Halloween candy, they want their patients to get hooked…on their product.

So to both the huge tobacco and drug worldwide combines, cannabis is a big no-no. It does not matter to them that marijuana eases the pain of millions of people with health problems, or provides a much safer option for relaxation than cigarettes or alcohol. Notice how many tranquilizers are on the market these days, ones much more powerful than marijuana? Isn’t it odd, then, that the tranquilizing effect of cannabis is made out to be so evil?

Not really. By continuing to work behind the scenes to prohibit cannabis, the tobacco and drug companies keep the flow of billons and trillions of dollars to their bank accounts. And these corporations are run by, and linked to, some of the most powerful people in the world. That’s where the money goes. Where your money goes.

And here’s where this article may seem to go off into “conspiracy theory land”, but again I stress that through years of research what I’m about to say is the truth I keep discovering over and over again in regards to the whole madness of marijuana prohibition.

The money that flows from me, you, and everybody from tobacco and liquor sales is massive, but only a small part of all the financial power that continues to flow to a very small group of people who truly control the power of the world-wide governments. Some of these people are very visible, such as the various world leaders appearing in the media today. Others are less-known, heads of big corporations you read about sometimes in the newspaper. Many of these power elite are totally unknown to the mass of society.

I know, sounds crazy, right? But look at almost any business or corporate organization these days, and you will notice a lack of true democratic, one-person-one-voice structure. The business model, like almost all hierarchies in human history, is a pyramid: a few powerful individuals at the top living off the work of the mass of economic slaves below them.

And yet, pretty well all of these individuals at the top couldn’t care less about human suffering. Power corrupts, and those at the top want to stay at the top. If that means ensuring profits by addicting people through alcohol, tobacco, and prescription drugs, as well as controlling viewpoints through popular media and “impartial” government studies, so much the better.

These few hundred people in the “Power Elite” know each other very well, and work with each other to keep the status quo in their favour. They are the ultimate reason, the true reason, why cannabis continues to remain illegal while overwhelming evidence shows it is a reasonable, often much more healthy, choice to government-approved-yet-fatal substances.

The truth is, 99.9% of the world’s population is in economic slavery to the tiny .01% at the top who hold all the economic power. And the world leaders and corporate CEO’s in that .01% will use any means necessary, make anything illegal, wage any war, to continue to hold onto the power they’ve had for countless years.

So, call me crazy. Call me a “conspiracy theorist”. You could be right, you could be wrong. All I’m asking is that you take a closer look into the very basic information I’ve provided you in this article.

Please, no matter what other people may think of you, always look for the truth. It is the only way out of being a slave.
