Access to
Medical Cannabis in
Toronto
by Mark x
In 2005
there is approximately 16,000 sick people living in Toronto area who
consume cannabis on regular basis for medical reasons.
That's one
useful fact I learned from paying attention to the news and here I would
like to
share another.
Most of these people we all know.
He
is that brother living in the basement, your sister in abusive
relationship, welfare mother with no voice, your local policeman to afraid
to loose his job. We ignore them now because they are vial, those drug
users. Remember that 1 in 5 Canadians smoke or smoked pot so that should make
for a large base of political support. They all get their marijuana, grass, weed,
cannabis on the streets, some get it from the compassionate clubs listed
here, very few rely on
Health Canada which keeps coming up with solutions like
Sativex and Marinol (see below) but can not seem to grow decent pot (hire
me).
Few cannabis
patients in Toronto are aware of the options they have when it comes to
supply.
There are three major and few smaller
Compassionate Cannabis Centers in the Downtown Core of Toronto dedicated
to reliably providing clean and safe cannabis to mentally damaged,
physically sick and often dying people. Each location can provide roughly
1000 to 2000 members per month.
This situation forces 3/4 of
16000 sick and suffering cannabis users to get their medicine from their
local
neighborhood dealer.
Medicinal
Marihuana Access Regulations (MMAR) are currently the
law in Canada in regard to Possession and
Cultivation
of Medical Cannabis.
The
courts have literally dragged Health Canada kicking and
screaming into the current (joke of a) system which provides patients with
low quality shake they lable marijuana (and charge GST).
Each bust and concurrent court case
is won by the cannabis users with genuine need for their medicine but the
court ruling is always appealed and the process drags on and on. It comes
down to this.
A medical cannabis user,
after finding a doctor who will agree first to sign ton of papers for
Health Canada, a doctor who must in turn find another doctor whom he/she
must consult with and co-sign the papers, may then designate a grower (2nd
person) to grow their pot for
them. They may of course grow pot themselves but simply ask yourself these
questions.
Do you really know how to grow pot,
and
Do you synthesize Tyle nol
when you get a migraine?
or
Do you buy it?.
This "designated grower" can
not smoke
pot unless of course he is a medical user as well. The designated
grower is not allowed to sell pot to anyone else, may face visitations by
Health Canada (aka RCMP), must provide receipts and of course pay taxes.
If you can not grow it yourself and you don't know anyone who can do it
for you, patients can always buy it on the street. Please remember to ask
you dealer for receipts which you can then file to Revenue Canada as
medical expense. No joke, these are the rules right now.
The
MMARs change only for political reasons
or court decisions but never for actual medical
reasons. Should our health be managed by doctors or cops and politicians?
